ASIAFEST 2007, the 4th Annual Plano Asian Heritage Festival

Celebrating Asian American Heritage Foundation, a non-profit all-volunteer organization, announces ASIAFEST 2007, the 4th Annual Plano Asian Heritage Festival. ASIAFEST 2007 will be held in Downtown Plano’s Haggard Park on Sunday May 6. The festival is geared toward the entire family. Admission is free.

In 1990, President George Bush named May national Asian/Pacific Heritage Month. On April 23, 2007, Mayor Pat Evans and the City Council will proclaim the Week of May 6-12 Plano Asian Heritage Week.

For the past three years, thousands of people have attended the Plano Asian Heritage Festival. ASIAFEST 2007 features booths from businesses and cultural organizations throughout the DFW Metroplex. Artists will be on hand to do children’s face painting. Clowns will be making balloon animals. Activities include lessons in Origami, the art of Japanese paper cutting.

Also highlighted are live music and dance performances on the stage near the gazebo in the park. This year, the Chinese Cultural Center of Garland will perform the Chinese Lion Dance and provide a demonstration of traditional Shaolin Kung Fu martial arts. The Dallas Asian American Youth Orchestra, a 35 piece ensemble, will be featured. Students from Hedgcoxe Elementary School will be putting on a fashion show wearing traditional garb from various countries.

New to the Festival is a wide variety of Asian food. Festival goers are encouraged to come for lunch. Some of the participating restaurants include Joy Luck BBQ, Boba Latte, 7 Spices, and Samurai Sam’s.

Join us Sunday May 6 for a fun filled afternoon in the Park.
